Not Your Mother's Playlist

I don't know about you but I'm feelin' 22. Just kidding! What I really meant to say is I don't know about you but when I get ready for a night out, I have to listen to music. It is definitely part of my prep. Some people can "listen to the TV" while they get ready or nothing at all for that matter. But me? Nope. I would end up taking a shower, turning Netflix on, and laying around in my towel all night. Plus, I think listening to music is way more fun. It definitely sets the tone for the evening. So that is why I have made something very special for you all. I am sharing with you The Flossy's very own Soundtrack to Getting Ready! Get pumped!

This isn't just a playlist with the typical "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." I chose each and every song for a special reason. Some of these songs are newer and some not. Some you hear on the radio all the time and some aren't even in English (I'll explain that bit further down). Each song though is meant to make you feel excited and anticipate the evening ahead. Think of this as your workout playlist except you don't dread playing this. At least you know at the end you are going to look fabulous and not icky.

Ideally, this soundtrack is best used for a night when you know the drinks will be flowing and the dance floor will be bumpin'. This can also be used if you are trying to psych yourself up for a blind date that your best friend set you up on.

The entire playlist is available for you to follow on Spotify. Just search the name: The Flossy's Soundtrack to Getting Ready and click "Like". Let's back up a second. If you don't have a Spotify account yet...get one and get one fast. In my opinion, it is so much cooler than Pandora. It's free to use with the option to buy a monthly subscription. Spotify allows you to search and play individual songs; make your own playlists; listen to their radio stations; etc. I could go on for days about why I love Spotify more.

Now without further adieu. Let me give you a quick run down of a few of the songs off the Flossy Playlist.

1. Glamorous - Fergie. No explanation necessary.

2. Edge of Seventeen - Stevie Nicks. Sorry Rachel Zoe, but I think I am a bigger Stevie Nicks fan than you. This song has really special meaning to me. I think probably by the age of seven my best friend and I knew all the words to this song. Our moms were the biggest Stevie Nicks' fans I knew. Not to mention, Stevie has the coolest style around. I mean, look at her. Fun fact: Destiny's Child sampled Edge of Seventeen for their song Bootylicious.

3. Italiana - Severina. Remember how I told you some songs aren't in English? This is one of them. But you have to give it a chance. It's so much fun. This song is about how you should let go of all the stress and live a carefree lifestyle like the Italians. The song is sang by a popular Croatian-singer that my Macedonian-husband introduced me to. Even if you don't understand the words, you can totally still dance around. This song was a huge hit at our wedding!

4. Play Your Part (Pt. 1) - Girl Talk. Probably if you haven't heard of Girl Talk, then you can't imagine what his music even sounds like. He calls his songs "mashups," but I call them "bangerz." (Sorry, Miley.) He's the only person I know that can mix two songs from opposite ends of the spectrum and make it sound bananas. He's a Pittsburgh boy too!

5. Yeah (3X) - Chris Brown. I would never condone anything Chris Brown has done but I do love some of his music. This song in particular brings back a funny and slightly embarrassing memory. It's a bit fuzzy as I probably had one too many vodka sodas but I can remember this song playing at my favorite bar and honestly believing I could do the dance moves to the chorus just like Chris Brown. Yikes.

6. Angel - Akon. This song makes me feel like a Victoria's Secret model. Ya know, you're doing your hair and makeup in your bra and undies (because who wears pants?). I know I don't have legs like Gisele or an ass like Adriana but when I hear it, it gives me that little "oomph" to my confidence. I hope it does the same for you. You're killin' 'em girl!

I hope the next time you and your girlfriends get ready together for a night out, you'll pop open a bottle of champagne, hit play on this playlist, and make some memories of your own.

Until next time...stay flossy!

xxA
